Birds Have Completely Deserted My Garden Has Anyone Else Had The Same Problem?
I used to have flocks of starlings every morning & evening Resident blackbirds & robins sparrows by the score blue **** great **** etc NOW nothing & that’s been for a few weeks now I still have a quite extensive feeding station Birds baths & a fountain but no birds WHY
At present a lot of our garden birds are feeding in hedgerows and fields,(Fresh food supplies)also depending on where you live, there could be harvesting going on, some will be just coming out of summer moult and they keep out of sight in the hedgerows and undergrowth.
Starlings tend to form huge groups at this time of year to scour the countryside for food.
Mine are just returning and I live in the N.E.,of the U.K.
They will be back.
They do desert Town gardens for the richer pickings in woods and fields once the pressure of rearing chicks has eased.
Now, they can afford to be fussy and fly far and wide without the need of a territory; they will be back if you keep your bird table attractive, for the Winter when things get scarce in the wide, wide world, and again in the Spring to establish a breeding territory.
As others have said there could be a new cat in your local area, and it would frighten away all or most of your birds, but I would be more incline to think that your birds are in moult at the moment, at this stage in there lives they tend not to fly to far, instead they stay Pretty close to easy shelter, I’m sure they will all come back to you in the not to distant future.
Birds are not coming to our feeder right now either. I think they are eating bugs, storing fat for winter probably. They are out there, just not coming to their feeding stations. In the winter, we feed at least 250# of feed.
Maybe something is happening to their environment near by, like a land clearing or building site . Or perhaps a neighbour close by has got a new cat.
Most probably you have a lot of noise lately.
Probably cats in the area. Make sure you bird feeder is up high where cats cannot get and they will come back eventually
since its closing in on winter, theyre going north they prolly wont be around too long
sam here i don’t now y either good question.
