I’ve just been to see a house and outside is a natural well (sinkhole?) underneath the garden decking. If I bought it I plan to extend over that decking but I’m wondering what the building regs are regarding natural wells. Will I be allowed to build on it? FYI I’m based in the midlands of England and feel free to throw any questions back, I’ll be happy to help. Many thanks!

I don’t want to spend money, though. I have all the tools. I and putting it under a tree. Yes, I know the roots will get in the way, but I’ll get rid of them. I want shade. And I don’t want a big pond. I want it to be… hmmm…. about 7-8 feet? In a circle-ish shape, I suppose. And about 4 feet deep, I guess. Very small. I’m planning to grow a garden around it. I have my cucumbers in a different location, but next season I’m going to move them down to the pond I’m making. I understand that they will be in the shade, I’ve got that worked out. Don’t worry.

Also, just in case you were wondering what the point in a pond that small is; it’s just for show. I might put fish (probably Koi) in it if that is a possibility…?

my family and i moved in to our rented semi detached house in July. 3 days before we were due to move in, he tells us he is planning to build a house in the garden. The planning notice has just gone up. Any ideas to delay the building work and generaly make things difficult. Thanks

on a basic step by step way can someone list the parts i would need by name and possibly list what ‘plugs’ into what (think knee bone connected to the thigh bone). I would like something in my garden that I can power household items into like the kettle, tv, tools, pc’s etc to reduce my bills. I’m happy for links explaining as I’ve tried to ‘google’ it but not found what I’m looking for…

We’re a small family, all with average wages. I myself am a full time student who also works part time at a call centre, my mum is a supermarket supervisor and her fiancé runs his own landscape gardening business. My grandfather is also a builder. We have been offered a several acre piece of land by a farmer in a fantastic area where large, expensive houses tend to be built, for £16,000. It seems an absolute bargain.
This is a new venture for us, and we’re unsure of whether to go for it, how much it would cost us, if we could afford it, and what we would need to do.
Can anyone advise us if we could afford to create this project, based on our typical family wages. We could design, and possibly build a house without too much bother based on experience. But is this project worthy? What would be the process?

We want to put parking under the quad-plex and have the area filled with walking paths and flower gardens. We also plan to have Olympic size pool, restaurant/meeting center that will hold 150 guests and have an electronic gate with brick walls all the way around. The community is for persons over 55 and will be centered between 2 communities with 20,000 populations.
Anyone interested? Anyone have any ideas regarding size plans etc?

If I were to buy a LARGE portion of land, away from the dangers of possible protests and/or vandalism from the general public. Then built a Pagan Temple for the use of any Pagan group on it, what would you like it to feature?
I imagine a place like the “Hanging Gardens” with a great many levels and landings each containing many nooks and crannies in them. Altars, some dedicated to a wide variety of deities and others left empty for personal use. Fountains and pools and waterfalls. Rooms resembling caves and others forests, possibly others looking like classical or foreign temples. Even bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens following this theme.
What else?

I have unlimited supply of wood. The excess heat to be used to heat the house and swimming pool. Excess electicity to be sold to the grid.
Would the capital cost be prohibitive? The running costs are not a problem. Is there a commercial turbine on the market.
My capacity to burn is determined by the cost of one man and a J C B to load a commercial incinerator.
I would exect a large input of D I Y in this project.
I know that planning permission may be required
