Bible Study With Jehovah’s Witnesses. Need Some Help.?
My wife and I have been having a study with some Jehovah’s Witnesses (two studies now). We are both avid Church goers but figured it couldn’t hurt to have another Bible study and learn more about other Christian doctrines.
Since they knew we were avid Christians they just let us pick a topic in their book “What Does the Bible Really Teach?” We looked at the Table of Contents and picked “Where are the Dead?” From there it was a rather ‘interesting’ study that we have agreed to continue but we are at a loss as to what we should do. No matter what verses we show them that disagree with their beliefs causes them to quickly try to discredit the verse saying that we’re either reading to much into it or that we simply don’t understand it fully.
They brought up Ecclesiastest 9:5 (For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten.) and Genesis 2:16-17 (And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”). They said that the dead are aware of nothing, so we can’t be in Heaven or hell because the dead aren’t aware and can’t do anything, and that once man (Adam) ate of the tree of knowledge he would surely die and become dust.
So we mentioned that we believed the death He spoke of was a spiritual death and though our body returns to dust our soul continues on. We brought up Isaiah 14:9-11 (9 The grave below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you, all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones, all those who were kings over the nations. They will all respond, they will say to you, “You also have become weak, as we are; you have become like us.” All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you.) and 1 Peter 3:18-20 (For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water…).
We thought it was pretty cut and dry and we even had other verses ready to do; they simply told us that we were, again, reading to much into this and then brought up something about our body is made up of nerves that allows us to feel and if our body is returning to dust and we are only spirits so how can we feel anything? I mentioned that God makes everything possible and could design our souls to act without our body being able to feel and reason. After that they asked if we had noticed that most Bible’s don’t use the name of God, Jehovah, like it was used in original Greek/Hebrew Bibles and they never answered our questions after they quickly changed the topic. Each time we bring up verses like this, ones they can’t easily twist to their beliefs, they instantly find a subtle way to change the subject and never answer our questions.
How should I approach them? Any tips for dealing with them? Is it worth it? I’ve been told that they will hold to what the Watch Tower has taught them no matter how much the Bible contradicts them and there is nothing I can do. As a Christian I’m taught to spread the Word of God, but if it won’t amount anything should I give up?
Thanks in Advance!

Would We Need Planning Permission To Knock Through To A Conservatory?
we would like to buy a cottage which is semi detached and overlooking farmland, however the living room is very small, but they do have a conservatory (part brick built) attached to one of the outside walls leading to the garden, I realise we would have to put up an rsj, but would we need planning permission to do the work?…thanks
I’m Doing A School Contest And Need Some Ideas Please.?
So the contest is to describe or draw changes that are possible to make for our boring lobby and terrace. The lobby is simple with shelves to store backpacks and lunches, there’s a big TV that shows all the upcoming school events, the entrance doors are glass, and there’s one little wood table. What could I design to enhance that?
The terrace is fairly nice with wooden lunch tables with big umbrellas over them and a little garden in the middle of the rectangular terrace. What could I add or change here to make it better?
Nothing too expensive because my school won’t consider it.
Thanks for all the creative ideas!
How Deep Would The Foundations Need To Be….?
I am planning on building an out building in my garden, the building will be about 3×5 meters and about 9ft high with a flat felt roof. The building will be constructed with breeze blocks with some engineering bricks for detail. I need to know how deep the foundations need to be and how wide as well, and what should I use for the foundations, hardcore…..ect
Thanks in advance
Which Do You Think Will Work Out Better For Me? I Need A Dog Colored Carpet, Or A Carpet Colored Dog.?
I guess you can tell that house work is not my avocation. What I want is a vacation. If I were to design a home with housekeeping in mind, there would not be a surface in the entire domicile that you couldn’t wash down with a garden hose hooked up to the hot water.
Maybe put the whole exterior on a giant hinge, so you open it up, hose if out, air it dry, and then seal it back up.
That might make collecting delicate antiques a challenge, but after cleaning today, I’m ready for that sacrifice.
If it doesn’t move, grow, do homework, or help pay bills, I’m washing it with the garden hose. In some cases, even if.
I Need Your Advice On Starting A Go Green Club At My Highschool, But I Am Not Confident.?
i need your advice on starting a Go Green Club at my Highschool, i am not confident.?
i really want to start a Go Green Club at my school, but i am scared and dont have confidence that it would be a success. my school is somewhat filled approx. 65% of thugs and gangsters, and am afriad that if i set up a garden, they would vandalize it, trash it, or ripp up the flowers.
i have good ideas but im scared that the ppl in the club would be bored and drop out of it. i hate to see my club filled with only 10 members.
should i still do the club? i know i can lead the club, but im afriad the ppl might think my ideas are dumb and lame.
i was thinking on making crafts during the meetings lik
- turning a milk carton into a wallet, is that lame or dumb idea?
- and having an afterschool meeting to paint Go Green themed trashcans by the memebers, then placing the trashcans around the school.
- i also wanted to make laminated membership cards, just cus they look cool to have one!
- i was also planning to have a garden in an area of the school to plant stuff, but afriad that thugs woulds step on it and ruin it, i would feel so depressed if i found our hard work tarnished and emberrissed to, i dont want ppl see our club looking lame cus ppl trash it.
- i was also planning to have meetings after school to also have the members go around to each classroom every other week and collect scrap paper
- and on EARTH DAY we can set up a stand and sell food and handmade crafts, lik the wallets and etc.
- for fundraising, i was thinking on selling beaded bracelets– which are “in” at our school right now, with a “go green” letters on it for a dollar
- also bottons, bags, lanyard, stickers too
- but i havent thought of fieldtrips yet tho.
- and i already have cool t shirt design too!
i have asked my friends about that idea but many of the said “thugs and gangsters might destroy and not respect our stuff” that just stopped me there. i really hav planns and want to do this, but i dont have confidence and unsure, and thats whats stopping me
i am afraid to take the leap, the risk, to start that club, becuase im afriad it would be dumb and lame towards ppl, and nobody would join, what if i gets boring, wat if ppl stop showing up to the meetings, i dont want others clubs and teachers to see this club as a failure!
should i do it? and why?
I Need Help Making A Treasure Trail For My Girlfriend ! (all Advice Welcomed!)?
(Tl;dr at the bottom for lazy peoples!:))
Hey peoples,
I’m returning from Canada this Thursday, and I’ve missed my girlfriend incredible amounts, so I bought her a lot of gifts while over her, as a surprise, I’ve decided to lay out a little treasure trail for her, for her to get upon my return !
I have to link all of the items together, and give (obvious, but not too obvious) clues for where the next item will be ! Also, they have to be outside her house, as I don’t have a key !
Here are the items :
A Beatles tshirt (her favourite band, a really nice shirt too).
A rolling stones waller (another band she really likes!)
A squirrel (she loves squirrels, she will love it)
A Pandora charm bracelet, and one charm (I plan on giving her more as time goes by!).
And I also have some random Canadian stuff from Dollarama, that I could use to just link stuff together – flags and wind catchers and…bandanas and stuff ! I actually have LOADS of Canadian touristy stuff, so I could use a lot of that !
I need help writing clues though ! There aren’t many hiding places in her garden as she lives in an estate and its very small ! Basically there are three sets of bushes I could put stuff in, and I think I will leave the first clue at her door.
I’m thinking for the beatles shirt I will leave it under a bush and write something like “your favourite band is among its friends, under a tree where your house ends”.
Then for the rolling stones wallet…I will try and leave it by some rocks….”Another gift for you lies, and this one wears a clever disguise, by the rocks, you should see a surprise, a moving stone among its stationary allies.”
I was planning on putting the squirrel holding the bracelet as the last gift, and hiding it very well under a bush (hiding so well because its a rather expensive thing to leave lying around…but I can’t come up with a rhyme for it. It has to mention that its her last gift too.
Can anyone help please ?
Tl;dr – Any advice for organising a treasure hunt for my girlfriend / can you come up with a rhyme that indicates where the last gift is hidden – its a squirrel holding a charm bracelet, I am going to hide it under some bushes. It has to mention its the last gift, too. Also, what do you think/can you improve my other rhymes please ?
Thanks a lot people sorry for how long this is !
Need Help With A Housemate!?
My partner and I have recently started renting our own place, we discussed having someone move in, and his mate decided it was time he moved out of home and asked to move in with us.
His mate doesn’t know how to cook, so the day he moved in we set out the rules.
- I will cook dinner and work lunches (as I don’t work)
- My partner and him are to take turns washing dishes, putting them away and taking the rubbish out
- Everyone is to clean up after themselves
- For the first week I will do his washing, but after that I will teach him how to use the washing machine and he will wash, hang out and put it away himself
- Downstairs (where all there project car’s are) is to be kept tidy, no glass, nails, screws, tools etc to be left on the floor as I do have to go down there to do washing
- Bedrooms are to be kept neat and tidy, personal items to be kept in the bedroom (laptops, phones etc) as my young nephew and my partners family comes over and I don’t want any property broken
- Bathroom, loungeroom and kitchen are to be kept clean, I do the vacumming, mopping, etc
- Lawn’s are maintained by the two boys, Garden’s are maintained by me
There’s a few other general rules but nothing major really, but the last week he’s been there all the rule’s have been ignored. I cook dinner every night, my partner does the dishes and when it comes time to put them away the the rubbish to be taken out i’m ignored… and I have to remind him usually 2-5 times and it STILL doesn’t get done. So i’ve started to get extremely irritated, i’ve told my partner i’m refusing to cook and clean until he begins to aknowledge that he has commitments to this household too.
I can understand this is his first time out of home, and he pay’s his rent on time, but he never cleans up after himself, there are cups and can’s and plates constantly left out on the coffee table, and his laptop left lying around on the floor.
I don’t know if it’s just me being picky, or if he has a problem with helping. I need some help as to what I should do about him, or if perhaps I have the problem?
Do I Need An Mba At 50?
I’ve had a very good career in the telecoms and IT sector, in both ‘hands-on’ design and technical project management roles. I already obtained a good first degree and a Masters in my technical subjects some 20 years ago.
Now I’m finding that I’m being passed over for senior management roles because my technical skills are too specialised. I lack broad managerial knowledge and experience.
I’m thinking of studying for an MBA to give me a better understanding of non-technical management roles. I have already been accepted onto a good, distance-learrning MBA.
What do you think? At 50 years, should I be thinking more about looking after my garden, rather than having an eye on the management board?
