PostHeaderIcon How Many Hours Should I Plan On For Our Wedding, Including Ceremony And Reception?

Hello,
We are doing our wedding at a beautiful garden venue that only allows daytime weddings, ending at 8pm. How early should I start the ceremony so that we feel “done” at 8pm, in your experience? We will be having a short ceremony (under 20 minutes) in one of the gardens followed by a late luncheon reception. Since we must be done by 8pm, should I start the ceremony at 2pm or 3pm to play it safe?
We think we’ll plan to have everyone meet somewhere afterwards for cocktails.
Thanks for your advice!

PostHeaderIcon Can You Help Me Plan My Birthday Party?

My birthday is coming up and we are settled on a garden party with a barbecue etc.
I always try to do something different – last year my cake was a pyramid made of swiss rolls – and I need some suggestions for this year.
I’m looking for:
1) Food and drinks recipes (perhaps non-alcoholic cocktails for my younger guests and those driving) that may be quite obscure but truly scrumptious;
2) Things for my guests to do. I thought about a guestbook for messages. Any other ideas?
3) Decor. I don’t really want a theme, but if you know of some affordable garden furniture available in UK or other garden items, I would appreciate your help.
On your marks, get set…………..start planning!

PostHeaderIcon Is Obama Plan To Have Your Kids Labor In School Victory Gardens To Offset Cafeteria Costs A Good Idea?

President Obama, talking to the AMA, has suggested that kids in American schools could work in their schools’ victory gardens, to offset cafeteria budgets – and emulate his wife and the children who maintain the White House victory garden.
What kind of fruits or vegetables would you like your children to grow?
Can kids handle crops like cotton?

PostHeaderIcon I Plan On Tilling Up A Garden Area About 24′x24′, Adding About 5″ Of Compost From Grass Clippings.

The compost is from only grass clippings and has been collected over two years and piled in a heap behind my storage building. It is black almost all the way through and filled with earth worms. I wanted to till out the 24′x24′ and lay soaker hoses down in the ground and cover it with a mixture of the soil and compost. How much compost should i mix? Is 50/50 a good idea? I am going to have a soil analysis done to get fertilizer and ph adjustment recommendations. I have also planned to make 6-8″ high boxes with some railroad ties I can buy from a local store, are there better more affordable things to make a pleasant looking and functional box? Do I need to add the compost by hand instead of tilling it into the soil to avoid killing the worms? This is my first gardening attempt and I want to have a success story, any advice will be greatly appreciated….so give me some good tips :)

PostHeaderIcon I Plan To Start A Small Vegetable Garden Soon? What Soil Is Best? And…?

I plan to start a small vegetable garden soon in my backyard. I live in central Florida, have plenty of sunshine and decent temps for plants. I will only be planting (a) watermelons (b) various peppers (c) various herbs and (d) cucumbers. What I need to know…
(1) Is it alright to use packaged manure as your planting soil? It’s relatively cheap (about 2.00 a bag) and I assume it does the job. Or do I have to buy the super expensive stuff that costs $9.00 a bag and has numerous growing agents and chemicals?
(2) When should I fertilize and how often? What should I use for the fertilizer?
(3) Is there anything I should know seeing how I’m a novice to this hobby?
(4) should I attempt to plant some of the vegetable plants and herbs in the ground or in large planting pots?
