Official – Life In The Uk Has Become ‘lonelier’ – What Can Be Done?
This is one of those research stories that stated the eye-bleedingly obvious:-http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7755641.st…
So, life is lonelier. Official. I could have pointed that out without the ‘research’ in the article.
Is there anywhere outside of rural areas, or retiree type backwaters where we say hello to our neighbours or local workers? I for one would love to chat to a postman – if I could find one who will converse with me in my native language (I am being serious).
Does anyone have a spare set of keys to ‘mind’ your house when you are away? What happened to the neighbours who brought round some fresh brambles/apples from their garden in Autumn? When was the last time you helped/had help from a neighbour? Do you even know who your neighbours are?
A sense of community. I do not know what these words mean anymore. A sense of community would no doubt have helped Baby P and the victims of the ‘British Fritzl’.
I concur that UK has become so worryingly detached in terms of having a ‘community’, that I feel this word no longer applies in the British Language. Why is this though? Crime? Immigration? Changes in values over the years? Lack of milkmen?
What Did You All Do For Your Baby’s First Birthday?
My Daughter will be 1 in May and HOPEFULLY by that point it will be Spring in London and we’ll have quite nice weather. We are planning a family bbq in our garden, complete with a marquee in case the weather gets bad but I wondered, what did you all do for your child’s first birthday?
What Is The Best Smoker?
I am looking for a smoker as a present. I would like something that has a vertical design with a door that opens similar to a refrigerator. I really like this Bradley smoker http://www.amazon.com/Bradley-BTIS1-Orig… but am looking for something about half the price. The person I’m buying it for is not sure if he’s loves to smoke but would like to try it out so about $150 would be my top end. Something that is electric would be preferable (ie lazy-Q). If you have personal experience that you could share that would be great. Alternatively a link to a site with some reviews.
Thank you!
What The Best Gift You Have Ever Recieved And Or Given? (not Romantic. For Family Members)?
I have no idea what to get my mom or dad for christmas.
if this helps:
My mom like gardening, pretty things and cooking. shes somewhat spiritual and is an herbalist.
My dad is a nature person too. Loves the out doors. Very practical person.
think a little more then “get your mom gardening gloves and a basket with seeds and tools” and “get your dad a hiking stick” or things along thoes lines. Last year I got my mom a copper heart wind chime from gaiam and my dad a cherry pit neck pillow that you can heat in the microwave.
What Should I Do With My Life???
I have a degree in Business Management/Marketing, but hate sitting in an office all day. I also sold media. The job was very lucrative and I functioned well in that capacity, however it was to much pressure and I was never home (family is important to me.) I went to school for teaching, but after a year I decided that the job market and salary would not meet my needs. I am very artistic. I love to draw, read, write, decorate my home and bake. I enjoy helping and taking care of others when they are sick or listening when they need advice. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty and although I know nothing about automobiles, I have no problem opening up the hood and trying to figure out what is going on (my husband does not appreciate this). I really like to garden and plant flowers. I get bored easily and enjoy variety. Unfortunately, most of the jobs that I would like do not pay very well. Most people do not understand why I would rather make $5/hr deliveri
Trying To Figure Out What College To Go To:?
i would like to have a career consisting of printing, graphic design, and customizing instruments. i live in michigan and was thinking about going to ferris state, college for creative studies, and my last resort would be to go to a community college. i am so lost because i’ve been told if i go to ferris, i’ll just be working in a cubicle routing jobs and not actually doing printing… if i shoot for college for creative studies, i don’t think i’ll make it because i don’t have enough fine arts in my background like everyone that goes there…and community college..well…i just feel like i’ll be stuck in garden city for the rest of my life if i choose to go to schoolcraft. i would really appreciate if anyone has any ideas/advice, thanks.
